“So that one may walk in peace-” Imi Lichtenfeld, founder of Krav Maga.
I was born and raised in central Israel, where I grew up loving everything athletic. At thirteen, I started my Krav journey with my brother Gal, as my teacher. I became passionate about how Krav Maga was created for everyone. The lessons were efficient and practical and worked on keeping people safe. After four years, I became an instructor.
At eighteen, I did my mandatory service in the Israeli Army. I was in the Kfir brigade where I did counter-terrorism work, as a Special Operations Combatant.
After serving in the field, I was assigned to become an instructor. With a lot of hard work, I became the Senior Krav Maga instructor for the Kfir Brigade. I trained over 10,000 soldiers including Israeli Special Forces and US Marines.
I was also the 2010 IDF Krav Maga champion, even though my opponents outweighed me by a lot. I'm living proof, accuracy and aggression can even the score.
After three years, I was honorably discharged as a first sergeant and continued to teach police and soldiers during my reserves. At the same time, I continued to train and teach in civilian and military Krav Maga under Israel’s top instructors, Gabi Noah, and Gal Chan. I also taught seminars in Europe, traveling to spread the message of walking in peace.
Now, I'm here in New York, spreading the values I learned. I am grateful that that passion is also what I do for work. My goal is to help those around me live their best lives possible, and that starts with personal safety. I'm currently an instructor at Krav Maga Experts, where I work with students on self-defense, fitness, and personal goals.
One of the most fulfilling parts of my job is helping people become more confident and assertive. Over the last five years, I've seen students progress so far from where they started. With consistency, humility, courage and a good heart, anything is possible.
Outside of Krav Maga, I just got certified as a Vinyasa yoga instructor because I believe yoga is a great compliment to combat training. At Krav Maga Experts, I even created a class inspired by Yoga and Krav Maga together, called Element.
I'm not only a teacher but a student as well. Currently, I am a Blue Belt in Brazilian Ju-Jitsu. It's a great way to work on my groundwork skills so I can better prepare my students for fighting on the ground. In May 2018, I placed first in the Big Apple Brazilian Ju-Jitsu tournament. I'm looking forward to entering more competitions in the future.
I hope to learn more about nutrition and functional patterns in the near future, so I can better help my students.
On a personal level, I really enjoy learning about philosophy and environmentalism. I think the two are more related than we think.
